The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested liquor businessman Amandeep Dhall in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The agency has so far arrested 10 persons in the case.
On Thursday, Mr. Dhall, owner of Brindco Sales Private Limited, was produced before a special court that sent him to five-day ED custody. It is alleged that he was part of the conspiracy to formulate and implement an excise policy that extended favours to liquor manufacturers and distributors.
In March 2021, he reportedly received a call from then Aam Aadmi Party communication in-charge and accused Vijay Nair for a meeting with the domestic and international liquor companies. During the subsequent meetings, the accused persons had discussed the excise policy and related issues.
In his previous statement to the ED, Mr. Dhall said that in October 2021, he lodged an anonymous complaint about the Delhi Excise Department allegedly allowing cartelisation, and also sent its copies to the offices of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and others in the Secretariat. In November 2021, he purportedly moved a writ petition in the Supreme Court in the name of Varun Chaudhary. However, the petition was put in defect later on.
Mr. Dhall’s arrest comes close on the heels of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the case.
